The story of the Bo-Kaap is etched deep into the roots of Cape Towns history. This colourful little suburb located at the foot of Signal Hill boasts with a rich muslim culture and a close-knit community. In the last few years, it has grown as a tourist attraction where one can enjoy a guided historical walking tour, indulge in local cuisine, or shop at the spice market.

It does, however, live with the threat of modern man and its money. As the city grows, so does the need and the greed. Slowly, some of these houses are being sold to outsiders with new ideas of Airbnb’s and owning a home with a view. It sadly could be disruptive to this beautiful community with their deep set heritage. Let’s hope this does not happen and that it keeps thriving for future generations.
Thank you, Bongani, for talking to us through this wonderful experience.
