Map of Africa

Most of my life I was obsessed with flying, from owning kites, angel wings and staring into the sky watching birds take flight with such ease. I wanted to leap into the blue wide space above me and gaze down as all things on earth grew smaller. The freedom was unexplained and for some reason I always new what earth would look like from up high.

What fascinated me more was the mechanics of it all. The dynamics of a wing, the obscurity of weather and how to over come gravity. The dreamer in me wandered earth as a land lubber.

It was not until many years later that opportunity presented to me the idea that I too can fly. It came in the form of paragliding. On this day I stared wildly at the colourful kites in the sky and asked out loudly: “How do I get to do that?” Pointing excitingly at the multitude of gliders hanging above the ridge in Sedgefield. I couldn’t stop the butterflies in my stomach fluttering at will and I knew this is what I had to do.

This was the first step, to my now 11 year journey, of being a solo female pilot. There has been some nerve wrecking moments but in the end it has become my place of solace, my escape from earth. Leaving behind the worries of the world to focus on my escapism at hand. My happy place.

It’s with a great pleasure that I can now share with you at last what it’s like fly the coast of Wilderness in the Garden Route. Thanks to my OLFI action camera, an affordable camera with all the gadgets to go with it. I hope you enjoy it… #onelifefilmit
