Eden To Addo | South Africa
What does a 20-year legacy of conservation feel like underfoot?
I recently had the privilege of immersing myself in the final day of the inaugural Festival of Wild Kindness, hosted by the Eden to Addo Corridor Initiative to celebrate two decades of reconnecting our fragmented landscapes.
We spent an unforgettable afternoon deep in a forested ravine at Bobbejaanskloof Nature Reserve in Wittedrift, Plettenberg Bay. Led by the incredible mother-daughter force behind this vision—Founder Joan Berning and CEO Rhian Berning—our small collective of nature enthusiasts, scientists, bird specialists, and visionary investors walked a vital 3km stretch of the Bitou Corridor.
This isn’t just any valley. This ravine is a living, breathing sanctuary designed to let wildlife roam freely, safely migrating across mountain ranges and biomes from Eden to Addo. Walking it felt less like a hike and more like a celebration of ecological hope.
As the sun dipped below the ridges, we gathered around a roaring bonfire for sundowners wrapped in the warmth of community. Surrounded by the sounds of the approaching night, we listened to selected stories and wilderness poetry that reminded us why protecting these wild spaces matters so deeply.
This is my exclusive fireside chat with Rhian and catch a glimpse of a day defined entirely by wild beauty and human kindness. 🎥👇
